Business clusters: Electric Power Systems and Sciences

Aims :
The main objective of the S²E² cluster is to actively contribute to the development of research and innovation in technological fields linked to electrical energy such as energy conversion, new energy, controlling energy in buildings and energy sensors.
As with any cluster, the aim is to develop R&D
collaborative programmes between major corporations, SMEs and public research organisations.Geographical coverage :
2 regions are involved: Centre and Limousin. However S²E² has built links with business clusters that have developed around energy themes, for example DERBI in Languedoc Roussillon, CAPENERGIES in Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur and TEMERRDIS in Rhône-Alpes.
Themes covered :
Photovoltaic sources, fuel cells, independent energy systems, LED lighting systems, carrier current, energy management in buildings, supervision of systems, packaging and connectors.
Projects :
During 2007, the S²E² cluster approved 41 proposals for a total budget of €123 million. Of these, 17 were financed by the government and local authorities in the Centre and Limousin regions.
For the Loiret, the main cooperation projects involve controlling energy in buildings with the SESAME project and four sub-projects. The SESAME project brings together ten companies and nine regional laboratories. Collaborative research work has started to bear fruit. One of the projects run by the Orleans start-up WIRECOM TECHNOLOGIES is developing an evolving energy management system in a building using online current carriers.
